As a solo artist, his first recording was released in 2006 and was titled: ‘Pepa Nating’. It was an album that portrayed his concern about social issues such as unemployment and the financial struggles people go through to get an education as well as themes about boy/girl relationships and factors that influence them; etc. It was an instant and constant hit in that as soon as it was released it shot up straight to the top selling position in the country and held onto the number one spot for over a year and a half. The track that made it for Gedix, from his debut album, was titled: ‘Skul Mangi’. For his second recording ‘Skul fee problem’ he kept to the themes of addressing social issues that affect the grassroots and once again, with ease, secured a position within the top 10 since it’s release in 2008.
‘Pen bilong lav’ is the title he has chosen for his third album, released only a few days ago and maintaining his focus to create as much information and awareness about issues such as education; corruption and other relevant concerns that infest the lives of many in contemporary Papua New Guinea. It is a family effort this time around as he introduces the voices of his two young daughters, whom the multimedia sound engineers (when quality checking the album) praised that ‘ol mekim gutpela stret’.
In ten years time Gedix Atege hopes he will still be recording, performing live and going activities associated with music. And I think he can rest in the comfort that his children may carry on the legacy he is building.
